A Little History

The Maple Leaf Café, our sixth, opened its doors on June 30, 2023. The café is housed in a century-old building, located at 85th Street and Roosevelt Way NE. The charming space, across from Reservoir Park and just a block from Saint Catherine's school, makes it an inviting hangout for the Maple Leaf neighborhood. In collaboration with Floisand Studio Architects, we designed the space to meet a variety of needs. It offers an efficient flow for those in a rush, while also providing a comfortable, inviting seating area for guests who wish to linger. Long marble counters display our breads, pastries, cakes, pies and many savory items.

Maple Leaf General Manager

ABOUT Autumn

Often there’s a divide between those who engage with mixers, flour, and convection ovens and those who engage with customers. Not so for Autumn Iver. She started at Macrina in our retail pastry division. With over a year’s experience baking, Autumn turned her culinary passion to the retail side of the equation. She spent a year at our McGraw location sharing her deep knowledge of our products with customers, before accepting a promotion to general manager at our busy Maple Leaf café in April of 2024.

The Maple Leaf neighborhood and the bright cheerful space appeal to Autumn, as does Reservoir Park, the friendly customers, and her crew. “I inherited a strong crew at Maple Leaf,” says Autumn. “They’ve got that intrinsic hustle. It feels good to be part of a great team.”

Before joining Macrina, Autumn honed her baking skills at a small family-run business, which was an invaluable learning experience. Transitioning to Macrina allowed her to expand her repertoire, and she learned about cakes, pies, and numerous other pastries. “Macrina is a great place to work,” says Autumn. “There’s a lot of opportunity to grow. And there is a lot of support and training for those interested in learning new skills.”

Originally from Las Cruces, New Mexico, located about 30 minutes north of the Mexico border, Autumn was captivated by Seattle’s “ocean meets forest meets city.” When not at work, Autumn is drawn to the water and is passionate about fishing and swimming. Yet, as much as she cherishes nature, she also enjoys the cultural rewards of the big city, especially the rich food scene and abundant bookstores. Her favorite authors include Robertson Davies and Zora Neale Hurston.
